Ohh, this is neat – I’m checking out envelope printing from Envelope Printing Online. They’ve got a decent selection, a bit on the small side for an online printer, and the prices are pretty good for anyone who – like me – doesn’t live anywhere near a Kinkos but could still use a service like this. Overall it’s a nifty site, my only complaint is that their selection is very corporate, and I don’t blame them at all for that. I’m sure corporations are their number one customer, but they do run a business online and if they’re going to compete they’re going to have to branch out into more fun, artsy and even cute designs to keep up with the big boys like Vista Print. It’s a nice site, though, and they’re definately worth checking out. I may refer my boss there, the designs look like they’re right up his alley. :D

Whoo, I’ve been using that Vat19 ambient fireplace DVD for the past two nights ( yes, only I have, Laota is forbidden from using it! I have the power! Also, Laota likes it, too ) and it’s perfect for falling asleep to, nice calming burning ‘noise’ and light melody. I’ve already got my sights set on the ambient sleep, lol. I’m starting to think I have to buy everything at Vat19 – they’re magnificent genius bastards!

Now, onto the reason for this post – and it’s a good reason! Toy makers and candy makers are starting to truely frighten me. Why, you may ask? Because they’re starting to make candy and toy hybrids that look sinister and alien or that double as a weapon, that’s why! I bought a 50 cent Mickey Mouse sucker and didn’t realize it’s stick was some kind of insane light up alien probe until I accidentally hit the button on the bottom of it when I was bringing it home from the store ( I didn’t even know it was there! ). This is the result:

Ew!

How did they pitch that? Hold up a lit up probe with a big smile on their face and say, “You know, for kids!”?

Awww! I got the cutest ever birthday presents! I got them a bit late, so it’s got an extra surprise feel to it, and they’re easily exactly what I wanted. First of all, I bought myself a little black bento (picture will come soon) with a built-in divider, plus Laota and I had to have three nori face punches to make little faces for our onigiri and add some extra cutes to our bentos (pics coming soon for that, too).

Next are two of the best birthday presents I’ve ever gotten – possibly the best, actually. Wil‘s presents are always the best, though, because he knows me better than my own family, lol. He sent a religious pendant and, unlike my own mother, got my semi obsure religion right! I give you the Helm!

Yay!

Yay!

And a gorgeous bento – it’s actually one I’ve been eying ( Is that spelled right? Lol. ), but never could afford. It’s pinkm cream, black, purple and red kimono fabric print with chopsticks, band and bag – aboslutely adorable! I just had to share it, I know the pictures aren’t the most fabulous but they give you an idea of what’s what. :D

Yay!

You know, I never thought I’d be looking at apartments in Austin Texas, or anywhere in Texas, for that matter. In fact, I believe at some point I swore Texas off as a possible place to move to once I get out of Stabsourri, but I’m looking at some of these places on SimpleSearchApartments.com and they actually don’t look half bad, a bit on the pricey side but not too bad. The search engine thingie is awesome, like Rent.com without all the annoying ads and pop-ups, and you get more advanced choices for search criteria, like searching by amenities or school district, or even by pets – very nifty site.

I dare you to tell me these aren’t cute, lol. Double dare! This is a rotten picture, but I just had to snap one, even if it was with my horrible, stupid camera phone, lol. I used my bento veggie cutters that I had shipped in from Tokyo, and I just adore them – they’re sakura, ume and orange blossom home made sugar cookies ( about 2/3 of an inch across ) with home made pastel frosting, just big enough to stick in a bento but I doubt they’ll last that long, lol.

Here’s something I didn’t know, and knowing me it was most likely common knowledge, but back to my ignorance. I just found out that the holiday trees in Washington D.C. and Rockefeller Center in New York City are lit up with LED Christmas lights from Holiday LEDs which, as you may also already know, are eco friendly ( use 90% less energy than regular christmas lights ). I’ve been wanting some of these LED holiday lights for awhile now, they taunt me because they know I can’t afford them, lol. I love this kind of thing, though, because in my fondest dreams I’m some kind of decorating superhero who’s yard and trees always look professional and everything’s perfectly safe and in tip top shape, all well oiled and choreographed to music like a Las Vegas fountain, lol. Alas, I’m not – I actually royally suck, but I still want these delicious lights. They’re the only LED Christmas lighting of their kind.

See, other LED holiday lighting that’s made especially for the pros isn’t UL approved for an astonishing feat that Holiday LEDs is approved for, and that feat is that, end-to-end, you can connect these bad boys and stretch lights for over a half a mile – oh yes, an entire half a mile – and to add to their safety, they have hard plastic encasement ( is encasement even a word? ) and never get too far above room temperature so you don’t have to worry about moisture getting into them and ruining your lights, or them heating up and burning down your house. The only problem with me getting a string is that I’m ungodly poor and I’d have to steal them, which isn’t out of the question yet but I’d like to wait until I have magical powers.

I’m watching Mythbusters, which has got to be one of my alltime favorite television shows, and they’re busting Cola myths. such as weither or not cola will clean a penny or dissolve a tooth – I thought, for sure, that it would dissolve the tooth but it didn’t – turned it brown, but didn’t dissolve it. But it did clean the penny, very well, actually.

One of the things that surprised me the most, though, is that cola does shine chrome and it does clean up blood super fast and super well compared to plain water ( which really surprised me ), and that makes me wonder if telling people on television that blood cleans up blood is such a really good idea, lol.

I’m sure you’ve noticed sites that ask for ridicule like Match.com, who have unreasonable prices and promise, at best, the same results you could get at a bar for the price of a drink, and more ridiculously the horrible eHarmony, who have twice rejected friends of mine on the grounds of their sexual preference ( can you believe that crap? ) and yet still charge insane prices. I mean, I’m with you eHarmony – if you want to screen people to make sure you can match them with each other, I get that. And if you want to keep out the loonies? I get that, too, but since when is being gay or bisexual considered looney? I bet you I misspelled looney, lol.

Well, fret no more, my dears for Faith brings you major linkage of the free kind, and yes I do realize that made no sense but bare with me. For everyone who’s looking for that special someone but doesn’t want to file for bankruptcy to do it should check out Flirtbox. Flirtbox is a usa dating site, yes another one, but it’s one you’ll appreciate the link to. This particular dating site has an active forum and state/region specific profiles, and on top of all that it’s 100% free, oh yes, my pretties. I did say free. The design of the site loads really fast, it’s easy to find your way around, the support/forum staff seems friendly and did I mention it’s free?

Why would you bother paying to be matched up with some pathetic, one-dimensional joke just because eHarmony can afford to put a commercial on the air with a clone of that creepy old Orvil Popcornbutter guy? Do you realize that eHarmony and Match.com can afford those commercials because they charge the life out of their members? And I poked around Flirtbox’s forum, FAQ, support, ect – it’s a neat place, I really recommend taking it for a test drive. What could it hurt – nothing to pay means nothing to lose, right? Try it out, you might be pleasently surprised. ;)

Ahhh, SelectBlinds.com is neat! Besides just being the one stop window coverings shop for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and even to spite that fact, they have some really beautiful blinds. They boast window shades, mini blinds, faux and real wood blinds as well as my favorite item on the website, the absolutely stunning Tropical Isle Bamboo shades in Manaca Cocoa, a beautifully rich cocoa color that would look fabulous with the dark sage green in my bedroom. The best part, though, is that if you aren’t sure how your new blinds will look, you can order a sample for free – including free shipping – to find your perfect match.

Scale Envy

Oct. 6th, 2007 04:49 pm
bento_box: KFC Christmas (Default)
I’m sure you know, by now, that I have a small eBay business reselling clothing from a wholesaler ( yes, I do have 8 billion jobs ), and one of the things that I’ve been dying for is a personal shipping scale to help with the load, because when you don’t have a car, it’s a pain in the butt to walk all the way down to the post office, which is quite a distance, just to find out how much something weighs so when a potential buyer asks you for a personal shipping quote you can tell them, with confidance, how much it would cost them.

Actually, there are quite a few places these days to buy retail scales thanks to the online auction/store boom, but it’s hard to find any at decent prices that someone like moi, who doesn’t want to declare themselves bankrupt, can afford, lol. What I really want, though, is a scale like this WeighMax Xtro, because it’s what I need, almost exactly, and it’s very cheap right now. I planned on getting one of those scales that prints it’s own shipping, but I couldn’t afford to recharge it with sixty bucks at a time, because, what if I never used all of it? Then I’m out sixty bucks, or fifty five bucks, and I may as well have not sold that tank top for fourteen, because I’ve lost on the deal, lol.

You may remember that few weeks ago I talked a little about my own experiences with Alzheimer’s and the fact that it’s had a signifigant and moving effect on me – even though I was really only a bystander in the situation – and about the upcoming Memory Walk and World Alzheimer’s Day, but even if you can’t participate in the walk, and you can’t become a Team Captain, there are other ways for the socially responsible to donate time and one of those ways is the important task of fundraising through hosting a Purple Party.

The idea behind a Purple Party is to invite your friends and family to this party, you provide them with an evening out and a bit of Alzheimer’s education and ask them to donate the money they would have spent to go out and have dinner, go to the movies, ect. in hopes of not only raising money for the cause, but also raising awareness.

If you’d like to host a Purple Party and get involved, go to ActionAlz.org and register your party there. You’ll get your own page for your party, have the ability to email reminders to your guests and allow them to make donations online – and the best part is that all donations made during September will be matched dollar-for-dollar by The Harrah’s Foundation!

I’m hooked on yet another website chock full of pretty things I can’t afford, lol. I’m usually not into luxury home decor, actually I’m best described as a minimalist to a creepy extreme, but some of the things they have at HomeLivingStyle.com are gorgemous, some of the prettiest pretties I’ve laid eyes on, even if they are way, way out of my price range.

The lighting really caught my eye, and the bathroom vanities are very expensive ( for me, at least ), but they’re gorgeous, and they look like they’d be worth the money and even boost a home’s resale value. I’m really not the type to shop for bathroom furniture vanities, I’m a bit on the poverty stricken side and it makes getting too into home decor costlier than it really should be, especially when it runs into the $1000-$2000 range just for bathroom vanity cabinets, but their furniture is so ornate and beautiful it makes you want to sell a kidney, lol.

I know, I suck. I’ve been gone too long, but I have a valid reason! My net was literally gone for a few days and now that I’ve got it working again, it’s so slow that it takes almost an hour to completely load my Netflix queue page so it took me 3 days to upload this layout.

I apparently don’t know when to stop it with the new layouts. Not my best work, but I’m obsessed with pink and I’ve got, like, no net connection so this is what you get, lol.

It’s harder than I thought it would be to use stock photograph’s, since so many times they just don’t have the clarity I’m used to and I end up with something I’m just not happy with. I need to find some new royalty free resources with decent, medium or higher quality stock images of Asia and the tropics ( Hawaii, Bermuda, The Amazon, ect. ), and hopefully something better will come of my work.

So, there’s another few movie reviews on the way, and I’m running out of Asian horror films to see, so if you’re a buff, too, and have a favorite, please comment or email me. I’m starting to panic, I don’t think I can get through the summer without at least 2 or 3 A-Horror films a week, lol. By the way, does anyone know where I can get a decently priced copy of the Japanese version of Red Eye?

New Layout

Finally got this layout finished, I think I’m starting to get the hang of this whole wordpress and valid coding thing. I have to admit, I’ve got a seriously long way to go before I’ve got it down, though. At least it’s coming easier now, lol.

Whoo, wordpress finally upgraded ( yes, it took me this long due to stupidity, lol ), and everything’s working including my newy-new counter that doesn’t screw up my validation! I feel a boogy coming on, lol.

I’m honestly already getting tired of this layout and I just put it up. I’m tied between two new layout concepts. I’m thinking either a dark layout, blacks and greys with Tokyo’s skyline, or a tropical scene ( probably also black ). cosmetic surgery in Beverly Hills

In other Faith news, more delicious movie reviews! The movie in question is The War Within, which is seriously compelling and so sad and touching. This film is about Hassan, a Pakistani man who comes to the U.S. with plans to blow up Grand Central Station as a suicide bomber after being arrested and mistreated under suspicion of terrorism, of which he was, at the time, innocent. In New York City, Hassan reuintes with childhood friend Sayeed and Sayeed’s family who are now Americans, happy and content with their new lives in the country Hassan hates. Everyone, every, every, everyone should see this film. It’s so believable and real, frightening and moving. Beautiful overall.

BELATED: My THIRTEEN favorite films of all time:

  • ZERO.ONE: The Craft
  • ZERO.TWO: Saved!
  • ZERO.THREE: Ringu
  • ZERO.FOUR: Orange County
  • ZERO.SIX: Ju-On
  • ZERO.SEVEN: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
  • ZERO.EIGHT: The Lost Boys
  • ZERO.NINE: The Breakfast Club
  • ZERO.TEN: Valley Girl
  • ZERO.ELEVEN: Dark Water
  • ZERO.TWELVE: Kairo
  • ZERO.THIRTEEN: Bunshinsaba

Well, I have 1 ERROR. 1, from eXentrique.com. Now, normally I’d let this go, but now that I’ve validated this website, I’m anal retentive about keeping it that way since it took me so long, lol. So, no more eXentrique.com link code for me. I’m going to have to use a plain link, here’s to hoping they understand!

Speaking of websites, I’m still messing around with valid xhtml and table-less layouts ( thanks to Jem @ Tutorialtastic ), I’ve decided to try my hand and making valid templates, so look for those in the future. For the time being they’ll be straight up templates, no skins, but if you’d like to see themes for cutenews, wordpress, ect. please let me know, I’d be happy to give it a try! Psst: Please also let me know what subjects ( beside the abstract pixel stuff I’m so fond of ) you’d like to see on said templates.

Newy new layout! I finally got my ass in gear and validated this sumbitch, which means that my site meter and a lot of my links and whatnot had to go, since the scripts fucked with validation.

Validation, as much as most people who preach it protest, is not an easy business. The basics are pretty simple, but any little thing like, oh say, a script or plugin that isn’t at one hundred percent will fuck your validation up. Now, I like the way the validated xhtml looks and works, and for a first timer with table-less CSS and divs I think I’ve done a bang up job, don’t you? But the facts are that I don’t believe validation is right for everyone, especially if they only run a hobby or blog site. Even fansites shouldn’t be required to use it, but there are purists out there ( loads of them, they’re like Christians, they’re everywhere ), and they’ll disagree. It’s a good thing I don’t know them and don’t have to care, lol.

I will be trying to stay validated from now on, on this site if no other just to have 1 valid link that I can toss at people who think I’m not a validation elitist because I simply can’t do it, lol. Anyway, my rant beith over for now.
