We had a movie night last night. We popped the film Loser into the bluray player and dug in to some new ice cream flavor is that we had never cried before.

Laota tried out the cake boss flavor strawberry shortcake, which I had the night before and will post photos of later, and I got to try second Street Creamery’s sweet ol’ joe, which is just what it sounds like a delicious creamy coffee flavor.

5 stars to both flavors of ice cream!

My stepdad is adorable. I mean, literally, this dude is a little ball of sweetness and light and as aggravating as he is lovable. He’s a great big kid, and being a great big kid he has a real hard time turning his nose up at candy – that includes a candy he loves that shouldn’t even exist because of the sheer gross factor.

If you’ve ever been to St. Joseph, Missouri – here on referred to as Joe Town or St. Joe – then you’ve undoubtedly heard of their local candy, the pride of St. Joe, the Cherry Mash.

Anyone who knows me knows how gaga I go over vintage style candy, especially chocolates and taffies, but this candy. This… monster. Is the most disgusting chocolate I’ve ever that didn’t say Palmer’s on it – and that includes ‘chocolates’ I made myself out of play dough when I was a kid.

No, Cherry Mash is not a candy. Cherry Mash is a poop in a white wrapper. A monkey poop. The pride of St. Joseph is a poor quality monkey poop in a little bit of thin white plastic. Oh, and did I mention it’s freaking hot pink inside?

That is no joke – neither is the fact that the blighter tastes hot pink to boot. That’s right, it tastes like a freaking color and it’s covered in chimp dootie. So, of course, my step dad had to give me one. And did I eat it? Yes I did. Was it gross? Yes, it was. Remind me to buy him some real candy.

Well, a few weeks ago on my mother’s birthday there was a swimming party. Yes, a 500 year old woman decided to have a pool party for her birthday – which would be great if it wasn’t a two hour drive in the heat. Add on top of that she had to stop and mull around a redneck’s garage sale for an hour (stank, I came out of it with allergies) then she wanted to eat – before a long car ride and a dip in the pool.

Okay, fine, her birthday and we do things her way. Then she decided on Country Kitchen – which was a bad idea and everyone but her knew it, but she decided that’s where she had to go.

Because it was cheap we all got the breakfast bar, and it tasted fine (so unhealthy, but I’m an egg fiend!). Low and behold, before the day was through, everyone had food poisoning. Food poisoning that lasted ages and everyone’s still slightly sick from the trip.

So, the moral of the story is my mother’s an idiot and Country Kitchen is disgusting. :P

If it looks like there’s nothing but lumps, hunks, mounds of meat on that plate then I say look again – that white thing is taters. Oh yes, I am very, VERY, healthy! ;)

I love, love, love this video! I do love a good octo-dog — P.S. For those who live in the states and can’t get ‘real’ Japanese sausages, try little smokies. They don’t taste the same, but they’re a great size for bento and work well with rice!

This post brought to you by Famous Footwear. All opinions are 100% mine.

FF-BiggestVictory-GIF_300x250(1).jpgOkay, fine, I don't technically go to school with the exception of some free web courses I'm taking from Stanford and Duke (which I will be discussing @ BeautifulSin at some point). But I do need footwear, as my poor unfortunate Saddle Oxfords are falling apart after two years of non stop walking that takes me a few miles around the town every time I need to get somewhere.

I'm just sitting here chatting with Wil and eating some cheap, crappy cookies from the dollarMy Darlings store as I surf Famous Footwear to see what they have. They actually have a ton of things I really want, specifically the Etienne Aigner Women's Jodell in Oxford Brown, which is an insanely lovely vintage-inspired style with classic saddle a 3 inch heel. I'm looking for something a bit more practical, say another pair of licorice/white or chocolate/cream saddle oxfords with a decent tread on them to replace the ones I've worn to threads.

Right now they're doing a promotion, a BOGO (which is shoe slang for Buy One Get One, in this case it's buy one pair and get another pair half off) plus a coupon thingie for %15 off, and if you're part of their customer Rewards program thingie that 15% is boosted to 20% – yes, %20 off (It's a BOGO + 15% off Famous Footwear Coupon, print the sucker out and redeem it anywhere from August 8 through the 18th in-store).

There's also this whole deal where you can earn a point for every dollar you spend to get up to $100 in gift certificates a year and discounts as perks for being a member. For someone like me who literally has no money, these little things make a big difference. I'm not the type of person who's wealthy enough to afford spinach, let alone brand new shoes at full price so you can imagine how this is just calling to me. :P

So, no, I'm not going to be going to school this year – but winter is coming and this young lady needs shoes!

I know this is a silly post, but I follow Hello Kitty on Facebook (She’s real, okay? Deal with it. :P ) and it just posted this adorable photo of Kitty-Chan and family for Parents’ Day, which is apparently today! So Happy Parents’ Day, everyone, hope it’s a good one!

Not a fancy bento today, more like a quickie! Some mackerel rice, peas and carrots, mini hamburgers and an omelet.

Just a flyby to welcome a new baby into the world! A panda named Shin Shin at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo just bore a cub, the first panda to be born in the zoo after natural conception in some 24 years – welcome, little one!

The event is so major that Oreo’s even made up a little cookie to look like a panda, isn’t this sweet?

It comes hot on the heels of their controversial but also much welcomed declaration of solidarity with the LGBT community by marking Pride Day with a rainbow stuffed cookie. Go Oreo!

I meant to post this (or anything at all) a few days ago, but I’ve been swamped at work and haven’t even had time to post bento pics as of late. :/

I’m surfing around at the moment looking at bento odds and ends that are awesome but I can’t afford them, and checking out some recipes online for new ways to dress up somewhat boring dishes. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for glazes and sauces, especially tropical flavors like the ones you find over at Nature Isle (which has a lot of gorgeous vegan and gluten free products, for those of you who prefer vegan or have to put up with Celiac disease) and the nutjob combinations I cook up myself, lol.

I actually have a real thing about BBQ sauce. I doubt anyone who doesn’t work in the food industry is quite as obsessed with it as I am, but that’s because when I can afford meat it’s always the cheapest cuts or ground meat that’s reduced for quick sale because it’s old. Because of this I’ve become a champ at disguising the flavor of old or inexpensive meat with the likes of a delicious BBQ sauce, vegan salad dressings or a great glaze. No one else can seem to tell how truly bad the cut of meat was before I started, either – I don’t know if that’s something to brag about, though!

Of course BBQ sauce is good for more than just meat, just like salad dressings and glazes can be used outside of their conventional dishes. BBQ sauce is great on a baked potato (do not overdo this, a little goes a long way!), on scrambled eggs (once again – go light!), or water it down a little (you can thin it out with rice vinegar if you want to keep a bold taste) and use it as a dipping sauce for a great veggie gyoza.

All in all, a good sauce or dressing is worth it’s weight in gold when you realize how much you can do with it!

The first bento in quite awhile that I’ve had the presence of mind to take pics of. Top tier: Rice layered with tuna salad and topped with nori/egg furikake, a nori strip and a bologna bear face. Bottom tier: Stir fried green beans in olive oil, garlic and spring onions. Octodogs and crab dogs with a little blue fox cup of BBQ sauce.

Oh, silly mother for showing up with stawberries and little, store-bought sponge cakes then forgetting them when she left. A little homemade buttercream, some warmed preserves and I have a feast! A feast of sugar! BWAHAHAHHAAAAH! *coughs* Ahh, ouch!

About two weeks ago I splurged on eBay and bought some Easter-style Hello Kitty furikake packets, they just arrived today! They contain four of each Tarako, Katsuo, Egg, Salmon, Okaka and Veg – can’t wait to try them out. Isn’t the package cute? When I open it i’ll be sure to include images of the individual packs! :)

I LOVE this! It’s my new project! I’ve also been looking for it for two years, and found it at Oh! Crafty Me! It’s originally from Sanrio, and it’s an easy-to-print and make mini chocolate box featuring my beloved Kitty Chan aka Hello Kitty, Sanrio‘s flagship character.

Hello Kitty Chocolate Box Project

Isn’t it darling? Don’t you just want to eat it up? Well, I’m mirroring their link in case it goes down to make sure that everyone has a copy if they want it. Thanks so much to Oh! Crafty Me for preserving this bit of Sanrio history for us!
